A review article, Computed Tomography -- An Increasing Source of Radiation Exposure, published in the November 29, 2007 issue of The New England Journal of Medicine asserts that the radiation from computed tomography (CT) may cause up to 2% of all cancers in the United States.


Expert Perspective from ASCO on HER2 Status and the Use of Paclitaxel for Breast Cancer Treatment
October 22, 2007

A study published in the October 11, 2007 issue of The New England Journal of Medicine shows that women with estrogen receptor-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer do not benefit from treatment with paclitaxel after surgery. Preliminary data from this study was reported in an abstract at the 2006 ASCO Annual Meeting.

A study in the August 11 issue of The Lancet concludes that screening for breast cancer with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) could improve the ability to detect ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), especially high-grade DCIS.

New guidelines from the American Cancer Society (ACS) recommend the use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for screening women at high risk for breast cancer. Additionally, a study of breast MRI in women with newly diagnosed breast cancer suggests that breast MRI may also play a role in this population.
